The Brooklyn Museum, at 60,000 sq. ft. (52,000 m2), now holds New York City’s second largest art collection with roughly 1.5 million works. Founded in 1895, its Beaux-Arts building, designed by McKim, Mead and White, was planned to be the largest art museum in the world. Since late in the 20th-century, thanks to major renovations, the museum shines as perhaps Brooklyn’s most important cultural site. Significant areas of the museum include a major collection of Egyptian antiquities spanning over 3,000 years; African, Oceanic and Japanese art are well represented.  American art is stunningly displayed, starting with the Colonial and Revolutionary periods. Every important—and also perhaps not well known–American artist is indeed represented in the collection. Visiting exhibits are always of superior quality and almost universal interest.  Bringing all this together, the quality of the displays in all galleries may be beyond comparison—perfect!

Just minutes away; choose the Condor as your Brooklyn Museum Hotel.
